Food & Accommodation

Firstly, Vietnamese food is well-known worldwide! Pho is the first thing you want to try. Fresh ingredients, subtle spices, and interesting menus remark the perfect time after a great day’s riding.

We are accustomed to all the local specialties. When accompanying us, we will order the most delicious and fresh local food for you. In case you want Western food, you pay extra. You ride in Vietnam, your food experience should be with Vietnamese food.

In terms of accommodation, any tour will involve a wide range of accommodation and will consist of a mixture of hotels, motels, guest-houses, bungalows and cosy home-stays. As we tour across remote areas of a developing country, accommodation is not always five-star.

However, we choose clean and comfortable stays to spend the nights, with the best standard. Trips in Vietnam are not for luxury, but for a different experience.

Riding licenses

Firstly, none of the foreign licenses is valid in Vietnam, consisting of your country license. There are conflicting discussion on this but the reality is unfortunately not a good news.
Nevertheless, the good news is IDP (international driving permit, 1968 Convention and) is now valid in Vietnam from August 1st, 2016 with the 46/2016/ND-CP decree. You can try an insurance policy easily when you have a 1968 IDP. If you have 1968 Convention IDP, please take your home country driving license with motorbike endorsement to Vietnam.
If you don’t have IDP or Vietnamese driving license, the police rarely stop you checking license unless you do something wrong. Indeed, traffic police nearly don’t stop foreigners in Vietnam to check licenses because they don’t speak English well or feel confident to deal with it and they have to deal with many other local people.

However, younger cops speaking English and using smart phones get easier for communication. Mui Ne and Nha Trang, South of Vietnam, have been the only exception where they started checking licenses.

Travel and Medical Insurance

This is another very important thing when planning your Vietnam motorbike tours.
Almost the insurance companies don’t give a policy that covers a motorbike tour accident if bikers don’t have a Vietnamese driving license. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to get a Vietnamese license with a tourist visa. Riders need a business visa of at least three months, a sponsor company, a work permit, and a valid passport.

These documents should be translated into Vietnamese at a notary office and the license will be issued after around 7 to 10 days. It’s just too complicated and time-consuming. With just a normal personal medical insurance, travelers will still be covered about 19 hours a day when not riding as we only ride about 5 hours a day on average. Some companies such as World Nomads, CHI Insurance and Allianz don’t require a local driving license and cover larger displacements.
Take it easy, you will be ok.
