The motorbike tour loop Ha Giang and Northeast Vietnam is one of our special and captivating journeys. This 5-day motorbike adventure will immerse you in the spectacular landscapes of Ha Giang, Dong Van, Ma Pi Leng, Meo Vac, and Ba Be National Park. In addition to marveling at the impressive mountain scenery, this tour promises fascinating journeys through villages and the pristine wilderness of Northeast Vietnam.
We will explore the poorest regions of the country, where you’ll encounter some of the most interesting and friendly people. Moreover, you’ll have the opportunity to discover intriguing aspects of local traditions and culture. The journey comprises a mix of easy asphalt roads and some challenging off-road/single tracks. However, we can be flexible to tailor the trip to your preferences.

Day 1: Ha Noi – Thac Ba lake (170km)
In the morning we start our motorbike tour by leaving Hanoi on dyke roads to avoid the heavy traffic and breaking out of the delta plains. We head out of Hanoi skirting along Red River to Phu Tho and then ride through peaceful countryside along Da river‘s bank. We stop for lunch at noon then keep riding till Yen Bai province and stop for a night in a lovely homestay nearby Thac Ba lake where has a small resort of Dao ethnic people. Before having dinner with local family of Dao and drink local wine together, we take a boat trip along the lake and swim or dive into the crystal blue water.
Day 2: Thac Ba lake – Ha Giang city (150km)
After breakfast, we take a motor ride on the track up to Ha Giang city via Tuyen Quang province.
After lunch, join the less travelled route along Lo river to Ha Giang City, where we stop for the night in ethnic nice homestay and apply for a permit.
Day 3: Ha Giang – Dong Van – Meo Vac (180km)
After getting the permit for motorbike tour in border areas at Ha Giang’s Immigration Police, we ride on small challenging mountain roads (but incredibly beautiful) on the land of colorful mountain hill-tribes.
Ride on a zig-zag track until reaching Vuong Family’s Residence, 14 kms before Dong Van.
When we reach Dong Van Town we will have some extra time to wonder the ancient streets lined with H’mong homes of clay bricks and tiles roofs built centuries ago.
Trek and meet the local in remote tribal villages to know more about their local life and take a boat trip in Nho Que river to Tu San canyon – biggest one in Southeast Asia.
Motorcycle up the Ma Pi Leng Pass. Here is yet another amazing place, with cloudy mountain ranges and the poetic Nho Que river winding off in the distance.
It is really difficult to find the exact words to describe Ma Pi Leng Pass, located between Dong Van and Meo Vac, near the northernmost tip of Vietnam, as a painting of astonishing beauty and magnificence that captures the eyes of all viewers and nature lovers.
Day 3: Meo Vac – Ba Be lake (180km)
To save time for the boat trip in Ba Be lake, We should start the day earlier so after breakfast, we start riding at around 8 am . Today’s ride is still on some interesting off-road track, crossing the rivers and some little bridges…. Just after 20km from Bao Lac we turn to narrow and bumpy road with breathtaking view of terrace rice paddies. We will ride mostly on the little back roads with peaceful view of the countryside…especially we will load all the bikes on the boat to take a boat ride along the Pe Leng rider to the Ba Be lake – the largest natural lake in Vietnam. This is a great experience. You can have a great of the Ba Be national and lake from the boat beside we can stop to have a swim or visit the caves along the ride. We will end the day in a village of the Tay people locating next to the lake. Dinner and stay at a homestay.
Day 5: Ba Be – Ha Noi (240km)
For a short sightseeing tour of the northeast area, a fantastic place is Ba Be National Park in Ba Be District, Bac Kan Province. We motorbike around the lake’s bank to enjoy a wide range of flora and fauna, as well as interesting geology and landscapes and also admire old stilt houses to learn more about culture and daily life of Tay people.
Then, stay off the main road for as long as possible we head back towards the Red River Delta, pass through areas inhabited by Hmong, Dao, Tay and Nung minority peoples. Lunch at noon on the way. A mixture of both challenging track and glorious sealed road are all the way back to Hanoi. The stunning Northeast Vietnam motorcycle tour will end safely in Hanoi before rush hours. Tour ends.
